Episode 216: Working on a Healthier Marriage and Other Relationships with Therapist Joanne Koegl, LA-LMFT

IMG_3416.jpg

We know how much you love new episodes, so we’re back with another one. This week, we’re sitting down with Dr. Joanne Diaz-Koegl, Licensed Marriage Family Therapist from Pasadena, California. She specializes in couples counseling, premarital counseling, loss & grief, individual and personal growth therapy/coaching and so much more. We asked her about the top issues that cause stress in relationships, how we can be better communicators (hint: it’s by being a better listener), and how to take care of your mental health with all the stress of the holidays. We know that speaking about mental health issues can be taboo in the latinx community, but the more we recognize the normalcy of having a healthy mind, the easier we can make the conversation. Dr. Joanne helped us realize that when are able to communicate directly with our partners and ourselves, we can create more fulfilled and happier lives.

Our Conversation with Joanne Koegl

How do you convince your partner to go to therapy?

What are the top three problems that cause stress in a relationship?

Tips for working on your marriage

Tips on communicating in relationships

How do you discuss finances during the holidays?

How do you recommend dealing with challenging in laws?

Do you include your children in your therapy journey? How do you tell them you’re attending therapy?

How does one find a good marriage role model?

Pick or Tip of the Week

Paulina’s tip - she’s always talking about her armpits because she struggles with discoloration. She found a lemon juice toner (it’s actually for your face) but she read that toner can help with armpits and she has noticed that it has made a major difference in coloring. It’s almost four shades lighter!

Bricia’s pick Cristela Alonzo’s new book, “Music to My Years”. She personally loves the audio version since she can hear Cristela’s voice. Just want to show some love to another fellow Latina writer.

Joanne’s pick: The Measure of a Man: A Spiritual Autobiography by Sydney Poitier

Episode 215: Changing Young Lives & Parent's Minds Through Alternative Art Programs with Carmelita Ramirez Sanchez from @thebhac

on air.jpg

We’re back with a new episode! This week, we sit down with Carmelita Ramirez-Sanchez, executive director of Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory in Los Angeles. Not only is she a dope super mama to two amazing kids, but she also directs an incredible youth program at BHAC. We talk about the classes & careers that students are exposed to through the program, how to explain a career in the arts to parents, and how the program is helping change the lives of incarcerated youths. Carmelita inspired us so much with her love of the arts and showing the local youth that there are more careers than what you traditionally might learn about, especially because we know the hard work that goes into being a chef, running a business and starting your own podcast. This episode will warm your heart, and we know you’ll be looking up this program before the interview is even over.

Before the interview, we’re talking about our Oaxaca Cookbook release party at the restaurant last week (SO MUCH FUN). Paulina talks about helping her daughters tackle their cultural day projects and Bricia says that Eddie has a new way he’s asking for attention. She also shares a great tip where you can ask Alexa to read your Audible books - check it out.

Also, now that our book is out, we want to meet you on the book tour!! Tonight we’re in Chicago - get your tickets here - but check out the rest of our stops this week and later this month. We would love to meet you, takes pictures, talk about the cookbook or mom life or whatever!

Pick or Tip of the Week

Birthday season is over, but Paulina has to share one last tip for you. Did you know that Sprinkles Cupcakes has cupcake ATMs in select locations? You just purchase the cupcake at any time of day and it comes out just like an ATM machine. Paulina and Ramiro did this every morning of the girls’ birthdays and it made them so happy.

Bricia is still in her no buying phase. It’s been a month and she’s doing okay, but she did have a moment when she wanted to buy something. Someone commented on her “door knocker earrings” the other day and at first Bricia didn’t understand, but after she Googled it, she’s loving them like these cute ones at Macy’s.

Episode 214: Oaxaca Cookbook: Writing from the Heart of @theglutster, Javier Cabral

l.jpeg

Get excited for this new episode! First, our family cookbook, OAXACA: Home Cooking From the Heart of Mexico, is out today! (Get it on Amazon now - bit.ly/OaxacaCookbook) We’re celebrating by talking to our friend of over a decade and co-writer of the book, Javier Cabral. The Glutster has been writing about food since he was 16 years old and now he’s the editor of LA TACO. We talk about how his obsession with food began and how he took something negative in his life and turned it into a lifelong career.  We also discuss  the year long process of writing the Oaxaca Cookbook, and the respect he has for all the women in his life. This episode will make you laugh hard, your heart swoon, and your stomach hungry!

Pick or Tip of the Week

The Lopez-Velasquez birthdays have finally finished, but Paulina is sharing a great party hack that you’ll love. Since her daughters’ birthdays are back to back to back, she decided not to throw any birthday parties this year. Instead, she bought balloons by the dozen at Target, different character balloons for each of the girls (like unicorns!) and golden number balloons for their age. Paulina also bought a small helium tank, which was her only investment for birthdays this year. It looked like a big party for the girls for a small price!

Bricia is really trying to keep up with her no shopping vow, so she’s turning her pick of the week into “things she would have bought but didn't.” 😂 Her friend, Martha, is so stylish and wore a beautiful knitted, unstructured coat during their trip to Nashville two weeks ago. If you’re on the hunt for a nice fall coat, go to Macys.com and search for “Mango coat.”

Episode 213: Keeping Up with the Super Mamas: Don't Wait til Next Year to Work on Being Your Best Self!

SuperMamas121918095.JPG

This week is another catch up session with your favorite Super Mamas. We are super busy with birthdays, trips and the Oaxaca cookbook release (one week countdown starts now!). Bricia and Paulina also discuss the importance of retraining your mind to be positive, especially with all the negative content we consume on social media & tv on a daily basis, and how you can empower yourself to end the year strong. Why start next week, next month, or next year when you can start being your best you right now? Let’s finish the year as the best super mamas that we can be.

Pick or Tip of the Week

If you’re native to California, local to Los Angeles, or looking to take a trip to the area, Paulina’s pick this week is for you. From camping to glamping, El Capitan Canyon is a great campsite for the whole family. There’s so much to do - the beach, hiking trails, a pool, playground for the kids, or even bring your bike like Paulina and the family did. You can also stay in a cabin like Paulina chose, a yurt, and tent with a bed, or if you’re the adventurous type (not us 😬😂), you can stay in a tent on the beach.

Bricia’s tip this week is something really different. She recently read the an opinion piece in the New York Times called, “My Year of No Shopping,” so Bricia decided that she would take on the challenge. She will not make unnecessary purchases like electronics, extra clothing or shoes, etc.; she’s just going to use what she has. Paulina made the suggestion of getting organized around the house to help with the unnecessary spending. When you know what you have, then you don’t have to buy anything extra.

Episode 212: Restoring Your Marriage, Faith and the Power of Words in Your Life with @RosieRivera

image6.jpeg

This week on the show, we sit down with Rosie Rivera - entrepreneur, international speaker, author and, oh yeah, the youngest of the Rivera Dynasty. This mama never imagined her life turning upside down over night the way it did; we talk about how many factors in life like death, children, and other issues can really put a strain on a marriage. Together with her husband, they started a podcast called “The Power of Us” to share their relationship experiences and show listeners that a successful marriage takes effort and intention on both parts. Rosie’s interview will inspire you to hold on to your faith even in your darkest times.

Pick or Tip of the Week

Bricia’s pick this week are these tweezers for $14.97 from Tweezer Guru! It includes 4 pairs of tweezers, including a super thin pair for ingrown hairs and blackheads (it’s an art that her facialist showed her how to do). She ordered it thinking it wouldn’t be good since it was so cheap, but she ended up falling in love with the set and then got upset when she realized she had been spending over $20 on all the other tweezers she had previously owned.

Paulina has a great tip this week - did you know you can link your Delta SkySmiles to your Lyft rideshare account? Paulina uses Lyft all the time in LA (we’re sure you do too!), and now she gets miles every time she takes a ride in the U.S.. If you travel a lot, you can easily rack up the miles! Episode 211: Healthy Living at Every Age with Dr. Sylvia Melendez-Klinger

Sylvia Klinger Headshot 2.jpeg

This post was brought to you by Aguacates Frescos – Saborea Uno Hoy. We received compensation to write this post, but all opinions expressed are our own.

Happy October! New month, new episode. This week, we speak to another returning guest, Dr. Sylvia Meléndez-Klinger, Registered Dietician and spokesperson for Aguacates Frescos – Saborea Uno Hoy. We’re talking about healthy living at every age and the benefits of eating fruits & veggies with lutein like delicious aguacate. Want to learn more about how to keep your brain healthy and possibly even help your kids perform better in school? You’ll want to listen to this episode!

Our Conversation with Dr. Klinger

What is lutein? Tell us more about it!

How does lutein help support healthy eyes?

What is cognitive health?

So there is a potential connection between lutein and our kids performing better in school? And, also a connection between lutein and keeping brains healthy as we get older?

I am not sure if the foods my family like have a lot of lutein. What foods are good sources of lutein?

What are other nutritional benefits of avocado for people of every age?

Pick or Tip of the Week

Bricia really really loves vegetables and she’s also a fan of organizing. She recently started using the Rubbermaid FreshWorks Produce Saver 3-piece, and with her mom as her witness, it actually works! It keeps all the produce much fresher. Bricia even took her produce drawers out of her refrigerator. If you have the space in your fridge, you can keep your fruits and veggies fresher for longer with these containers.

Paulina is the one with a bougie pick this week! She is loving this new lunchbox for Zixta - OmieBox Bento Box for Kids - Insulated Bento Lunch Box. It comes with a thermos that keeps food hot or cold for lunch, and it also has a handle which is great because you don’t need to buy another lunch box or bag to put it in.

Episode 210: Knowing Your True Identity with @officialTLopez

T Lopez www.OfficialTLopez.com Heyday.JPG

New episode Tuesday! This week we’re talking to T Lopez, recording artist and entertainer with 20 years of experience. This mama of two gave us one of the most spiritual interviews we have had in awhile. We talk about how T realized she needed time to figure out what her next business venture was, how she exercises her faith, and how she’s helping her daughters shape their identities with the help of her new podcast. Our interview with T came at the right time in our lives, and we hope you feel the same clarity we did!

Pick or Tip of the Week

Bricia is currently in love with Alterna hair products. It’s important to remember that prepping your hair with the right products before styling your hair (curly, straight, waves, whatever) makes a big difference in the final outcome. Alterna sent her a few products to try and she figured out the perfect hair cocktail for her hair. Their CAVIAR Anti-Aging® Replenishing Moisture CC Cream gives such great texture, heat protection and more. When you finish styling, use their CAVIAR Anti-Aging® Working Hairspray. But when you’re a busy mom like Bricia and you only have time to air dry your hair, use Caviar Anti-Aging Smoothing Anti-Frizz Air-Dry Balm. It’s awesome on wet hair - scrunch it into you hair, air dry and go, and your hair will look great.

Paulina’s pick this week is Halloween Time at Disneyland! After spending time with her family there last week, it made her so happy and put her in the holiday mood with all the pumpkins. They also have an altar and Plaza de la Familia at California Adventure from the movie “Coco”, where you can place the name of your loved one. From the parade to fireworks, it made her entire family so happy. Paulina recommends visiting the park anytime from now until the end of the year because the holidays at the park are so magical.

Episode 209: Finding Sisterhood Through Hard Times with Ana Pompa Alarcón Rawls of @findsisterhood

Ana headshot (2) (1).png

It’s a new episode! This week we speak to Ana Pompa Alarcón Rawls, founder and CEO of findSisterhood. She’s a badass mom who created a new social network for women to share stories anonymously. We talk about her two incredible birth experiences, her postpartum depression that inspired her to create this safe space for women to connect, and the empowering app that turns one year old this month. This episode is funny, spicy and will leave you feeling inspired to go for your goals just like our friend did.

Before the interview, Bricia and Paulina relive their weekend since it was the grand opening of Mama Rabbit in Las Vegas. They also had THE BEST dinner at Jaleo by Jose Andres in the Cosmopolitan hotel and had such a heartfelt, fun night with the family. Paulina also talks about the amazing time she had at the Current Conference in Austin, Texas and how she can’t wait to visit the city again.

Pick or Tip of the Week

Paulina’s pick is a sunscreeen (she has been very moisturized last week, check out last week’s pick). It’s the Coola Full Spectrum 360 Mineral Sun Silk Crème Organic Sunscreen SPF 30. She’s been using it on herself and her family every morning because Krista never wants to wear sunscreen when she’s playing outside, so Paulina has made it part of everyone’s morning routine. She loves that it’s organic and makes her skin feel moisturized all day.

To keep in the spirit of a bougie Vegas weekend, Bricia’s pick is a bougie beauty product. You already know she watches too many YouTube makeup tutorials and she’s obsessed with all the makeup on the show Euphoria. Since she did her own hair and makeup all weekend in Vegas, she decided to buy a new foundation and fell in love with the Pat McGrath Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation. It has a medium coverage that’s very buildable and she promises it’s worth the hype.

Episode 208: Taking Chances in Your Career & Knowing Your Worth with Jennifer Lopez of @CamilaCreative

XW7A5226.jpg

Time for a new episode! This week we interview our very own Jennifer Lopez, founder/CEO of Camila Creative, a communications agency in LA. If you didn’t know, Jennifer is our PR manager and makes A LOT of Super Mamas magic happen. We talk to her about what it was like to be the one-woman show of her company (founder, accountant, investor, HR - you name it, she does it), knowing when it’s time to expand your team, why it’s important to be confident in your choices and why knowing your self-worth can make the biggest difference in your career. She’s also sharing great tips about the world of influencers and what brands are looking for in a partnership.

Pick or Tip of the Week

After Paulina’s mom said she was getting old, 😂she decided to get back on her skincare regimen , but then she noticed how she neglects her hands, legs, basically everything that that isn’t her face. She realized she had a sample of lotion called Gloves in a Bottle, and she loves it. It really leaves the skin soft and silky, and she has noticed a huge difference.

Bricia’s pick this week is an app that she’s obsessed with. She was meal prepping this week and realized she always uses the New York Times Cooking app. The email newsletter is great because it always comes with a recipe, and the app also has a variety of options for school lunches, on the go snacks, and dinner recipes. She finds herself checking the app if she is looking for a new recipe or is looking for inspiration, so check it out!

Episode 207: Reconnecting with Yourself through Skincare with Leah Guerrero of @brujitaskincare

DSC_8038-Edit.jpg

It’s a new month and a new episode! This week we talk to Leah Guerrero of Brujita Skincare, a Latina owned brand from Los Angeles, California. Brujita Skincare focuses on making essential skincare with ingredients sourced from mercado’s throughout Mexico. We talk about the basics of skincare, the importance of taking care of yourself, how she found her niche in holistic skincare and became a brujita of skincare. We were in awe of Leah throughout this entire interview, and we know you’ll be under her spell ✨ when you hear her speak.

Pick or Tip of the Week

Paulina’s pick this week is a new show on Netflix that her sister, Elizabeth, recommended and it’s as good as Game of Thrones. It’s called “Casa de Papel”, a show from Spain (also called “Money Heist”). It’s a good thriller/mystery and it will have you on the edge of your seat!

Bricia’s pick is a movie on Hulu called “A Simple Favor” with Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick. It’s SO funny and weird, and Bricia loved it! She also watched another PG rated romantic comedy called “Falling in Love” because her son, Eddie loves romcoms. 😂

Episode 206: Keeping Up with the Super Mamas: Back to the Grind

SMsoft.JPG

We’re back on the mic, back to school and back to the grind! It’s been a while since we brought you an update because yes, we forgot to upload an episode last week 🤦🏽‍♀️ but we’ve been pretty busy. We announced our new family cookbook (pre-order it on Amazon here!), Bricia has been traveling to Las Vegas to prep the new bar opening next month, and Paulina is back from Oaxaca and her daughters have started school. Basically, it’s been a whirlwind and this isn’t even half of it.

Pick or Tip of the Week

Paulina pick this week is the store, The Children’s Place, for school uniforms. It came up on her Amazon feed as a brand while she was shopping last minute for the girls’ uniforms. It’s a wonder she has never thought of it before because everything is so inexpensive! There are so many options and colors, she’s definitely coming here next time she has to stock up on uniforms.

Per usual, Bricia has a bougie ass pick. 😂 She has been traveling a lot and someone asked her what her top 3 things when she travels. One of her must have products are under eye patches. Her facialist, Natalie, never pushes products on her, but when Bricia asked for under eye patches to preps her skin for makeup, she recommended CHANEL Firming - Anti-Wrinkle Flash Eye Revitalizer patches - and they actually work. There are 10 patches in a box for $130 (that’s $13 per patch). Put the serum on, then the patch, leave on for 10-15 minutes and when you remove, you look really awake and it makes a difference. If you’re getting married, going to a special event or it’s your birthday, make the splurge. It works!

Episode 205: Event Planning 101 with Evelyn Jimenez of @HarlowPlanning

2019SMS051119_434.jpg

Time for a new episode! This week we talk to Evelyn Jimenez of Harlow Planning. Now a major part of team Super Mamas (she turns our SM Social dreams into reality ✨), she was one of our first guests on the show and now she’s back with updates. Evelyn talks about how she made the jump from corporate life to running her event company full time and how you need to be confident & relentless when it comes to following your dreams. Plus she shares tips on how to throw your own event!

Before the interview, we talk about how summer is winding down but we still have lots of plans. Paulina is working out everyday and Bricia has a trip to Baja this weekend. Also, the book is coming out in just a few months and you can pre-order it on Target, Amazon and Barnes & Noble now! Screenshot your pre-orders and tag us on Instagram - you know we love and appreciate your support! 😝

Pick or Tip of the Week

Paulina’s tip is to pack ahead of time for a trip. When she was getting ready to leave to Oaxaca, she realized she normally leaves packing to the last minute, but for this trip she started packing a few days early and packed her essentials like deodorant + makeup right before she left. It helped her feel a lot less stressed, especially since she was traveling with the baby.

Bricia’s tip is loving Babe Waves Hair Waving Iron from theproductjunkie.com. She has the straightest hair, but this wand gives her mermaid hair. It’s not beach waves, but mermaid hair. It takes a while but it has a really good tutorial and she is obsessed! Also, please pre-order the book. 🙏🏽

Episode 204: From Mall Punk to Jefa Life with Patty Delgado of @hijadetumadre

B443D5F5-FF5B-4034-8DD2-2E48A431ADED.JPG

August is here and we have a new episode for you! This week we interview Patty Delgado of Hija de tu Madre. She’s a plant-mom 🌿 who created Hija de tu Madre to be a safe space that is empowering and represents latino culture. Patty talks to us about how she created her lifestyle brand, how hard it can be to build a team & work with different personalities, and her support system that is her parents & the Jefas Crew.

Before the interview, Paulina is talking about how excited she is to be in Oaxaca right now (yes, we pre-recorded this intro 😬) and both mamas remember how they used to perform at the Guelaguetza in Oaxaca. We’re also talking about the new lingo that we learned during our interview with Patty. 😂 #mallPunk #mallChola

Pick or Tip of the Week

Bricia’s recommendation this week is a massage ball. She’s been using a GoFit 5 inch Massage Ball - Muscle Pain Management. There’s so many different options on Amazon and honestly it’s like an at home massage.

Paulina’s pick this week is Hugh Spa in Koreatown, Los Angeles. She got a 30 minute scrub and a one hour massage where the woman got on top of her and was stepping on her, kneeing her, elbowing her - it was the best massage she had in a long time AND it was only $100. The spa is women only, very mellow and different from other Korean spas, but she is definitely making this a monthly thing.

Episode 203: All Things Hatch Chile with Chef Ida Rodriguez of @melissasproduce

shownotes2.jpg

Check it out, it’s a new episode! This week we interview Chef Ida Rodriguez, a corporate chef at Melissa’s Produce, the largest distributor of produce in the United States 🥕🌽🌶 (and at our restaurant!). Hatch Chile season only comes once a year and Chef Ida is teaching us all about it - the history, its heat levels and the BEST ways to eat the chiles. Stay tuned to the end of the episode to find out how you can experience a live chile roasting, and make sure you listen to the episode with snacks, because it’s going to make you hungry! 🤤

Before the interview, Bricia talks about how she’s hooked on a new show, Euphoria, and how the female characters make her nervous to ever have a daughter. Paulina also had her cumbia party last weekend and it was so much fun! It was chill, there was good bites of food, and even the cops made an appearance! 🚔🚨 It might have to be an annual party. 😉 They also attended an all-women-in-the-restaurant-industry brunch and had a great time speaking with so many empowering intellectual women.

On another note, we want to send love, healing energy & prayers to the families of the victims and all others affected by the senseless shootings at the Gilroy Garlic Festival. We talk about the festival during this episode, but we recorded the interview prior to the incident which is why we don’t mention it during the episode. We’re sending lots of light to all those suffering because of these shootings.

Pick or Tip of the Week

Paulina is currently loving the lotion she was gifted by Leah of Brujita Skincare. It’s a Palo Santo + Jasmine lotion. Lately she’s been having issues with perfumes on skin, but this after applying this lotion, the scent really mellows out and she’s received so many compliments. Follow @brujitaskincare on Instagram and check out her restock on brujitaskincare.com in August!

Bricia’s pick is Euphoria on HBO because it’s THAT good. Watch it here.

Episode 202: The Benefits & Frustrations of Being Bilingual with Lizet Alvarez of @chiquisocial

ChicquiSocialDDLM_10272018-0060.jpg

Hey super mamas, we’re back with another new episode! This week we’re interviewing Lizet Alvarez of Chiqui Social. She’s talking about how she created the bilingual social club & event space that is Chiqui Social, the courage & dedication it takes to work on your passion project (spoiler alert: it’s not easy), and the shame that some latinos receive for not speaking Spanish. Lizet is also sharing great tips for practicing Spanish with your kids at home, and we know we’ll be putting our kids to work!

Before the interview, we talk about our favorite time of the year - summer! Paulina’s life has been super chill & easy lately since her husband is working a lot and Krista & Sabina are in Mexico. She’s had a lot of extra time for self-care but she’s really missing her family time. Bricia’s husband was also out of town this weekend so she took her son to Disney’s California Adventure, went swimming and played super smash brothers. Both super mamas are loving this summer and are soaking it all in!

Pick or Tip of the Week

Sorry team tampon, Paulina’s pick is for all the pad lovers. #padsquad 😆 This is pad you’ve been searching for. They’re from the Honey Pot Company and they’re made with cotton & essential oils. It’s been helping her feel fresh, clean, and this is the first time she’s actually enjoying the smell. 😂

She also has an extra tip this week! Her sister, Elizabeth, introduced her to a podcast called Sex with Emily. It’s all about sex, relationships and more, so definitely don’t listen to it around the kids. The podcast mentions the vibrator, Moxie by We-Vibe, which is controlled via Bluetooth and is now on Paulina’s birthday wish list.

Bricia has an anti-tip this week and wants suggestions from you! She bought a new booster seat for her son, but every time he naps in the car, his head falls forward. She bought him a neck pillow which works because it keeps his neck upright but then he folds over (check out the picture below). There’s also those weird headband things to hold his head back but her son thinks “it’s too silly” so that’s not really an option.

What’s your favorite product out there for this problem, mamas? Please send us your suggestions, tips, hacks, inventions - we want to know!

Bonus Episode: Four Years of Super Mamás

SUPER MAMAS_034.jpg

Surprise! It’s our 200th episode… again. We got a little sidetracked last week 🤷🏽‍♀️ so we’re giving you a bonus episode on the exact date we released our first episode four years ago. We’re reintroducing ourselves, talking about the growth within ourselves & our families, and interviewing each other about the biggest misconceptions our listeners have about us and more. Stay tuned at the end of the episode where we talk about what’s next for us!

We also want to say thank you to every single one of you. From our day one listeners to our new listeners, we’re so grateful for the Super Mamás Sisterhood. You have attended our meetups, panels, events, call our hotline to share your Super Mama Moments and introduce yourselves when you see us out & about. We’ve have grown as a community and created so many new friendships. It’s been a great journey and we’re excited to see what’s next for all of us. Maybe Beyoncé or JLo will perform at the Super Mamás Social one day. 😂😉

We want to know what your favorite Super Mamás memory is! Tell us your favorite episode & guest, your favorite Super Mamás event memory, the friendships you’ve made, anything. We could not do this without you!

Pick or Tip of the Week

If you’re a new listener, these picks are going to show you their exact personalities. This will tell you exactly who Bricia is and who Paulina is.

Paulina’s pick is the best item she’s gotten this summer - a pulling cart. “I needed something to carry all my shit. You know I’m the bag lady? Well now I'm the carrito lady.” She’s going to dump all her kids, bags, girl scout cookies, and she thinks every family should have one.

Bricia’s pick is bougie - her expensive ass Dyson Airwave Blowdryer. Sometimes she hates washing her hair because she has to wait for it to dry before styling it, but with the Dyson, she can go from wet hair to dry hair in 12 minutes. It was $600 but she uses it every single day and even took it on her bougie ass vacation. Worth it.

It’s the next episode! 😉 This week, we talk to Sisanie, co-host of On Air with Ryan Seacrest on 102.7 KIIS FM in Los Angeles. She’s a busy, working mom just like a lot of us - co-hosting with one of the biggest personalities on the planet, raising her one year old twins Aiza & Maxon, and hosting her own podcast. She lets us know how she balances it all and what she still needs to work on. You’ll definitely want to listen to this real, down-to-earth chica!

Before the interview, Bricia talks about still being on vacation mode and how much she’s enjoying her summer. Paulina also shares her Super Mama Moment that will have you laughing out loud. 😂 Plus in honor of four years of the podcast, we’ve added a new segment - fire questions - and the answers will reveal a lot about a person.

Pick or Tip of the Week

Paulina’s tip this week is to reuse! She recycles all the gift bags, tissue paper and plain blank cards that she gets from her daughters’ birthday parties. She also has her girls make their own birthday cards for their friends’ birthdays. Bricia chimes in with her hack of saving Eddie’s artwork from school and turning them into birthday cards as well.

Bricia’s pick is the show Black Monday on Showtime. Set in 1987, it’s about the worst stock market crash in the history of wall street. She binge-watched it during her flight to Hawaii last week. It’s super funny and gives her Wolf of Wall Street vibes. You can watch it here.

Episode 200: Surprise Weddings, Responsibilities and New Stages of Life: #Adulting with @LernandoFopez

It’s our 200th episode! We’re celebrating this major milestone with a special guest - our favorite 😉 brother, Fernando Lopez. This week, we talk to Fernando about how much his life has changed since our last interview with him. From his recent surprise wedding to realizing he’s ready to prepare for a secure financial future (#adulting), Fernando has basically grown up in a month and we’re very proud sisters!

Before the interview, Bricia talks about her successful Hawaiian vacation of piña coladas with tequila añejo and I Love Micheladas mix, and Paulina shares how she survived five hours in the car across the border with her kids.

Pick or Tip of the Week

Fernando has a lot of picks this week. He has been learning all things real estate so he’s informed when he’s ready to buy a new property. He loves listening to the Bigger Pockets Podcast - the earlier episodes are his favorite! He also enjoys watching real estate agent and investor, Stephan Graham, on YouTube. His final tips are true gems: “Wear sunscreen, get a good hat, and get a bottle of I love Micheladas mix and make drinks at home with your friends instead of going to the bar.”

Paulina has two picks this week. First, she loves Airbnb. It’s easy and has great deals if you search far enough in advance. Second, she’s had some trouble keeping her hair color purple and doesn’t want to go to the salon for a touch up every three weeks, but since she started using Celeb Luxury Viral Colorwash and it has made a huge difference keeping her purple nice and vibrant.

Finally, Bricia also echoes Fernando’s tip about wearing sunscreen. She is loving Sun Bum Original Moisturizing Lotion. Whether you use SPF 15, 30 or 50, it doesn’t leave you all white and she didn’t peel or burn. Fernando also suggests a big hat from Home Depot, but to each their own. 😉

Episode 199: Everything You Need to Know about Your Child's Skincare with Dr. Mercedes Gonzalez

MGonzalezFB.jpg

A new month is here and so is a new episode! This week we talk to pediatric dermatologist, Dr. Mercedes Gonzalez, about all things baby skincare. We also ask her your Instagram questions about baby acne, dry skin and other skin conditions we can’t pronounce. 😂 Bricia also talks about her embarrassing deodorant moment and Paulina realizes maybe she is the cause of her girls’ skin issues. You won’t want to miss this informative episode!

Pick or Tip of the Week

Dr. Gonzalez is loving Dove’s Volume + Fullness Dry Shampoo. Her hair started shedding after her baby was born and again after weaning from breastfeeding (which can sometimes happen whenever there’s a hormonal shift) but the volumizing shampoo really makes her hair look thicker! It helps soak up the oil and smells amazing.

Since we’re talking about skin, Paulina has been dealing with dry scalp. She washes her hair once a week and uses this massaging hair brush to help stimulate her scalp. It really helps the shampoo wash her scalp evenly and has made a huge difference, plus helps provide that clean feeling.

Bricia’s pick is something she thinks every woman should have in her wardrobe: nipple covers. Bricia found this great brand on Amazon that is inexpensive and made with great material.

Episode 198: Child Safety & Home Organization with Dr. Kendi

Sadiqa Kendi_official photo 2.jpeg

June is National Safety Month. This week we’re talking to Dr. Kendi, Medical Director of Safe Kids Worldwide, about the best ways to keep your home safe & organized for your little ones. We also talk about why it’s important to start baby proofing BEFORE the baby arrives and we ask her to answer your Instagram Story questions.

This episode is brought to you by our friends at Tide.

Our Conversation with Dr. Kendi

Let’s start with baby-proofing 101: When you are introducing a child into your home, at what point should you start childproofing?

Do you have any personal hacks when [standard baby proofing] items don’t work? Are there any products that you are absolutely loving right now or that you can recommend?

What is the #1 injury or accident you see in your patients that can be fixed with organization or safety precautions?

How worried should I be about [my kids] putting dirt, bugs or plants in [their] mouth?

What information should all parents leave behind for a babysitter, parents or anyone who is watching their kids [in case of emergency and] at all times?

How do you keep your little ones away from the stove or oven?

Is there any cleaning supplies that are safe and natural for kids/family and pets or do you recommend that people start making their own?

At what age is it appropriate to start letting them use knives or sharp objects around the kitchen?

For a curious child, getting ahold of laundry packets can be extremely dangerous, and they need to be handled with great care to prevent unintended exposure. Do you have any tips on how to limit that exposure?

How do you secure a home with stairs and a toddler who climbs over all the baby gates?

I’ve seen videos of kids climbing over and escaping their cribs. What advice do you have for those parents?

How do you secure the front door with a toddler/child that can reach all the locks?

How do you recommend hiding TV/internet/phone wires from teething children?

Do you have any safety tips when leaving tweens/teens home alone? What are some skills the kids should have in order to be left alone?

How do you organize hazardous toys that your older children love but could be a choking hazard for little ones?

Pick or Tip of the Week

We must love keeping tidy if all of our picks have to do with organization and cleaning. 😂 Dr. Kendi has a busy schedule as a full time physician, researcher, and with her husband & daughter. She is loving Google Keep, a new task list app that updates in real time. She can jot down notes, attach pictures, and create a grocery list to assign to her husband on her busiest days. 😉 It’s now available on the App Store for iOS and Google Play for Android.

Paulina suggests baskets as her organizational tip. From tiny baskets to big baskets, she has them filled with toys in the living room, bedroom, and the hallway. Not only do they look pretty, but they also hide the mess!

Bricia’s cleaning pick is the Tide PODS Free and Gentle: Laundry Detergent Packs. Not only does the white box look great when it’s high up on the counter, but she loves them so much more than the liquid detergent. Who knew there was so much innovation out there?
