Episode 410: Tips for Traveling with Kids this Summer with Lola Dweck

About Lola

Lola is a Mexican-American recipe developer, writer, and cooking instructor who loves sharing her culture with the world. Growing up in California and spending summers in Mexico, Lola celebrates her family’s Mexican recipes and vibrant culture through Lola’s Cocina.

The inspiration for Lola’s Cocina came about over ten years ago when she realized that treasured family recipes, some dating back many generations, must not only be experienced through our taste buds, but also preserved in writing. This is when she began to jot down recipes that she learned from family and friends, as well as some that she created herself, or stumbled upon serendipitously. Her dream is to continue to share recipes through many generations

Episode 323: Keeping It Real with the Super Mamas: Crazy Parties, Back to School and Spa Water Vibes

Our summer is ending, but that doesn’t mean the fun is stopping for these Super Mamas! On this week’s episode, Paulina is back from Oaxaca and the sisters have a good ol’ catch-up session. We talk about Bricia’s adventures being a blonde; she says people are a lot nicer but people also accused her of spa water vibes. 🤣 Bricia also attended a crazy party that made her feel like she was in Vegas, and their little sister Liz turned 30! We’re also staring to get into back-to-school mode with Krista, Paulina’s oldest, starting middle school and Augustina, Bricia’s youngest, going into a daycare program. It seems like summer is officially over, our kids are growing up before our eyes and we might not be ready for it!

Pick or Tip of the Week

Two of the BEST shows Bricia has seen this year are The Offer with Miles Teller and The Bear on Hulu. She also recently watched the cutest movie with Eduardo when they had a mom & son date night - Princess Protection Program on Disney+.

Paulina is asking for tips this week! She hates seeing electronics cables all over her house, so she purchased these cable wraps, but she really wants to know if anyone has any has any better, maybe prettier suggestions to hiding cables in your home. We’ll put up an Instagram Story later this week, but you can also send us a DM or email us at hello@supermamas.com with suggestions!

Watch MrBeast on YouTube. We also talk about this proposal video, island giveaway and his guest appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

Paulina’s daughters have watched Super Pets and Cheaper By The Dozen this summer, and she highly recommends!

Episode 316: Adventure is Out There with Tori Bolt, co-owner of Bolt Farm Treehouse & Airbnb Superhost

We love a good vacation this time of year! This week’s guest is Airbnb super host, Tori Bolt. We have previously mentioned why we love renting homes while on vacation versus staying in hotels (with Bricia recently launching her own rental property on Airbnb), and after our conversation with Tori, we know we’ll be adventuring in rental homes for more vacations to come. Tori explains how she and her husband created Bolt Farm Treehouse, what it takes to be a great rental host, and how faith guides her and her husband in all that they do. She has such a calm yet adventurous spirit, and we’re ready to book our next experience in one of her special homes!

More about Tori: Tori Bolt is co-founder of Bolt Farm Treehouse, an inspiring place to reconnect with nature, the people you love, and your purpose, and the leader in luxury outdoor travel. What started as a treehouse for Tori & Seth’s wedding day quickly became, under Tori’s marketing & PR prowess, a nationally recognized brand featured on Netflix, a celebrity hot spot, and named the most popular Airbnb in South Carolina by Buzzfeed.

Before building treehouses and operating these one-of-a-kind boutique hotel-vacation rental hybrids, Tori was a news producer and entertainment reporter, which is how she met her husband, Seth, founding member of the band Needtobreathe. Now, Tori leads the Bolt Farm Treehouse team and utilizes her passion for PR while Seth, the company’s visionary, dreams up future designs. Her mission is to create intentional, inspiring environments that help travelers reconnect, and to inspire female entrepreneurs to chase their dreams, live their best life as they pursue meaningful work & meaningful relationships.

Expectations as a Short Term Rental Guest (from Superhost Tori)

  1. The fewer rules, the better. No one wants to read a giant binder of rules, just mention the important ones.

  2. You attract people in the way you write your description. I.e. If you don’t want party people, don’t describe your space as “great space for entertaining,” etc.

  3. Highly recommend a personalized welcome video! Explain a few rules, how to use certain things like hot tub, tv, etc.

  4. Tips for guests so they have the best stay. It keeps that personal touch.

  5. Tori’s NUMBER ONE pet peeve as a guest: “Don’t give me a long list of check out instructions especially if you’re going to have a high cleaning fee.”

3 things hosts can do to motivate guests to leave reviews

  • Ask them! Send a follow up message once they check out.

  • Do the work for them. If they say something kind to you, remind them that they can copy and paste it into their review.

  • Give them an incentive. Maybe a coffee mug, discount off their next stay, t shirt, etc. People love a good freebie!

Pick or Tip of the Week

Bricia’s husband gifted her an Oura Ring for Mother’s Day and she’s obsessed with all the information it provides. It tells you when you might be getting sick, tracks your period, when you get good sleep and what you did that day that made a difference in your sleep. She’s learning so many things about her daily habits that she never noticed before!

Since Paulina is still on her journey or reorganizing her home, she is loving these Ziploc Space bags. She’s packing away all the winter coats, big comforters, and they really are saving her space in the cabinets!

Episode 306: Keeping It Real with the Super Mamas: Back to Pre-Pandemic Busyness

It feels like life is starting to get back to normal! This episode is a classic catch up session between the sisters. Between travel, birthdays and kid’s activities, it’s been a minute since they have been home and able to catch up. Bricia is still spending her weekends going to baseball and Joshua Tree but Paulina was finally able to catch her breath at home, so she got a jump start on her spring cleaning. Bricia also talks about her trip to Utah and the incredible people she connected with. Sounds like we can expect some cool new guests in the podcast’s future!

A Conversation Between Two Sisters

She met Chef Eduardo Garcia and Mary from Five Marys Farm

Also, #notsponsored but she really loves her Traeger Grill

Finally, did you know Bricia has been working on a new cookbook? Order her first cookbook Oaxaca now!

Pick or Tip of the week

Paulina and Bricia are still both using the Byte aligner trays. Since Paulina wears her all day, she needs to remove them before she eats and brush her teeth before she puts them back on. She’s loving these mini disposable toothbrushes from Crest. One side is a toothpick and other side is a brush. She brushes wherever she is and it’s helpful with her aligners and perfect for traveling, camping and just keeping in your bag for emergencies.

Still #notsponsored, but Bricia loves the Ranger portable grill by Traeger.

Episode 275: Keeping It Real with the Super Mamas: Post-Vaccine Travel, Birthdays & the Bulgaro Lady

Are you ready for a sister update? Because we’re ready to spill the tea! Bricia tells us about her first trip post-covid vaccine and while she had a little bit of anxiety getting to her destination, she is really thankful she was able to getaway. Paulina is talking about her new healthy habits and becoming the búlgaro lady. We also talk about Eddie’s second birthday party ever, Bricia’s extra decorations and as always, we’re sharing our picks and tips for the week. #AddToCart

P.S. Shoutout to our favorite Evelyn from Harlow Planning, balloons from Lotus Party Co. and installation from Preferred Projects for creating this incredible set up for Eduardo’s 6th birthday! Nothing wrong with a little extraness. 😉Check out his backyard party set up in the gallery above and reach out to these amazing vendors for your next party!

Pick or Tip of the Week

Last week, Fernando asked Paulina if she wanted to go to the movies. Some movie theaters are allowing you you rent out the whole room for yourself up to twenty people - your family or whoever is in your bubble. They went to the AMC in Monterey Park and everyone loved it! This is going to spoil the kids because they were able to walk around throughout the movie and yell at each other. It’s a good sign that everything is slowly getting back to a new normal. Check out local theaters in your area to see if they offer this cool opportunity!

Bricia’s pick is a kids’ finance app called Greenlight. It’s a savings + spending app that she found when she was trying to figure out how to pay Eddie from his business since he has to pay for his new iPad (if you missed the story about that, listen to the intro of THIS episode and check out his tie dye shop). Greenlight is a prepaid debit card made just for kids. You can transfer money, send allowances when they complete chores, see their expenses and how much money they have. Eddie used his debit card to pay for his new iPad and his independence even shocked the guy at the Apple store! You have to listen to the episode to hear about the rest of his first big purchase.

Episode 224: Keeping It Real with the Super Mamas: Multiple kid living & après skiing

IMG_8987.jpg

Happy February! It feels like it took forever to get to a new month. We’re keeping it real this week & catching you up on our busy lives. First, Paulina is talking about her weekend with four kids - and no she isn’t pregnant, she was watching Eddie while Bricia was out of town. 🤣 The cousins had a movie night, sang karaoke, and went to their local library where Krista learned an important lesson in responsibility. Bricia also recently traveled to Sundance in Utah and experience how “the other half” lives LOL. 💰 Apparently people have a ski-in, ski-out rooms in their Utah homes and do this thing called “après ski” but more fashionable (guess we’re going shopping 🛍). She also shares a hilarious story about an awkward moment with one of her fave celebrities, Issa Rae, that you’ll have to listen to!

Pick or Tip of the Week

Paulina’s pick is something for families with multiple kids or for when you have a lot of kids over, like she did last weekend. The kids always want water or juice, this or that. Her favorite cup hands down is the Munchkin 360 cup. She has so many, and with so many colors she’s able to give each kids a specific color that they can keep track of. There were no spills, no accidents, plus they’re super easy to clean or throw into the dishwasher (just make sure you wash each of the 3 parts).

Bricia has two beauty picks this week. She received two new lipsticks - the first one is from Sweet Street Cosmetics and it’s the thick and thin lipstick & lip liner duo. It has two tips, one darker and one lighter, to give that chola look (dark outline and light lip is back in) but way more chic. The second is a lip gloss from Facil and it has become one of Bricia’s new favorite nude shades. She received it as a gift from a party at Sundance and it’s a great shade for daytime wear.

BONUS EPISODE: How We Would Take Our Walt Disney World Trip to the Next Level

9A1142CF-6759-4B30-A88D-352C98AA4957.JPG

Two episodes in one week?! We couldn’t keep it all the Disney Magic to ourselves! ✨

We're still dreaming about Walt Disney World, but we got to talking about what we would do differently next time. We would definitely schedule more meals at restaurants like Be Our Guest at Magic Kingdom (we heard the grey stuff is delicious 😉) and Jaleo, a José Andrés restuarant at Disney Springs. We would also plan a day to rest & recharge at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and take advantage of the resort amenities, like a massage or pedicure (for tired feet!) at the beautiful Senses Spa and then let the kids enjoy the waterslide at Beach Pool.

Towards the end of the episode, we interview more Disney Cast Members about new attractions coming to Walt Disney World. First, we speak with Stephen Lim, Walt Disney World Ambassador, which is our new dream job. 😍Stephen’s knows all things Disney and speaks about Disney's Hollywood Studios' newest attraction, Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway opening March 4, 2020. We also interview Fabrice Becker, former Olympic Gold Medalist (check that off our bucket list ✔️) & Director of Creation of Cirque du Soleil's newest show, Drawn to Life. This collaboration between Cirque du Soleil, Walt Disney Animation Studios and Walt Disney Imagineering opens for previews March 20, 2020, and officially debut April 17, 2020, so you won’t want to miss this!

Episode 221: Keeping Up with the Super Mamas: Our Walt Disney World Vacation !

D52F10B9-0178-468E-BC02-86ACE90A4666.JPG

Happy New Year Super Mamas! We’re finally back with brand new episodes and not to be biased, but this was worth the wait. 😉 This week, we’re recapping our family trip to Walt Disney World! We spent five days and four nights at the most Magical Place on Earth, and it was such a great experience. We were lucky enough to be invited to celebrate 20 Magical Reasons to Visit Walt Disney World in 2020 and experience all the reasons for ourselves.

We visited all four Walt Disney World Theme Parks during our visit - Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Epcot, and Magic Kingdom Park. We used our fast passes throughout our visit, which was absolutely worth it because we were able to ride a lot of the most popular attractions like Frozen Ever After, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, and Avatar Flight of Passage. We stayed at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, which had great restaurants, the Bippity Boppity Boutique where Sabina got her princess makeover, and even a spa that we’re definitely trying next time we visit the parks (✨manifesting a yearly Walt Disney World trip✨).

One of the best parts of our trip was that we were invited to check out some exclusive sneak peeks, including a new ride called Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway opening March 4, 2020. We even had the opportunity to interview Cast Members (aka Disney team members) who worked closely on some of these projects: Cesar Avila, who chats about Disney’s Riviera Resort, a new resort inspired by Europe and imagined by Disney, and Disney’s Skyliner, the best way to get around the theme parks, and Monica Yukopila, who share tips on how to get more DISNEY out of your Walt Disney World vacation when you stay at a Disney Resort hotel. You can listen to both of these interviews at the end of today’s episode.

Check out all of the links below to learn more about where we stayed, what we saw & did, and what we ate.

Pick or Tip of the Week

We have the same pick this week! Our hair stylist, Sal, is so namaste 🕉 and into astrology, wellness, etc., and told us about his experience at this wellness center called The Bartholomew Center in Downtown Los Angeles. He fixed Bricia’s jaw and told Paulina she needs an entire session for her face, but it was an experience they will both be going back for.

Episode 200: Surprise Weddings, Responsibilities and New Stages of Life: #Adulting with @LernandoFopez

It’s our 200th episode! We’re celebrating this major milestone with a special guest - our favorite 😉 brother, Fernando Lopez. This week, we talk to Fernando about how much his life has changed since our last interview with him. From his recent surprise wedding to realizing he’s ready to prepare for a secure financial future (#adulting), Fernando has basically grown up in a month and we’re very proud sisters!

Before the interview, Bricia talks about her successful Hawaiian vacation of piña coladas with tequila añejo and I Love Micheladas mix, and Paulina shares how she survived five hours in the car across the border with her kids.

Pick or Tip of the Week

Fernando has a lot of picks this week. He has been learning all things real estate so he’s informed when he’s ready to buy a new property. He loves listening to the Bigger Pockets Podcast - the earlier episodes are his favorite! He also enjoys watching real estate agent and investor, Stephan Graham, on YouTube. His final tips are true gems: “Wear sunscreen, get a good hat, and get a bottle of I love Micheladas mix and make drinks at home with your friends instead of going to the bar.”

Paulina has two picks this week. First, she loves Airbnb. It’s easy and has great deals if you search far enough in advance. Second, she’s had some trouble keeping her hair color purple and doesn’t want to go to the salon for a touch up every three weeks, but since she started using Celeb Luxury Viral Colorwash and it has made a huge difference keeping her purple nice and vibrant.

Finally, Bricia also echoes Fernando’s tip about wearing sunscreen. She is loving Sun Bum Original Moisturizing Lotion. Whether you use SPF 15, 30 or 50, it doesn’t leave you all white and she didn’t peel or burn. Fernando also suggests a big hat from Home Depot, but to each their own. 😉

Epsiode 197: Keeping Up with the Super Mamás: Summer is Here!

ep197main.jpg

SUMMER IS HERE and we’re back with a brand new episode! This week we’re talking about our summer plans (and lack of). While Bricia & family are planning a trip to Hawaii (shout out to Delta!) and a full immersion musical experience for Eddie, Paulina is scrambling but planning her own time off without the kids. We also check in and talk about how both our super mamas “lost their flow” after the social but are determined to be kind to themselves & get back on track. Remember that you can get knocked down many times but all you have to do is get up again!

Pick or Tip of the Week

Sometimes you have to do a little grooming, ahem, “downstairs” to prep for a summer of shorts, skirts and bathing suits. Bricia is loving sugaring as an alternative to waxing. It’s a mixture of sugar, lemon juice and water and tends to be gentler than waxing. If you’re nervous about the pain, Paulina recommends this razor, similar to one she uses.

Paulina is sharing some advice this week: “Be kind to yourself. And if you feel like you failed yourself, it’s okay.” Remember, the official theme song for Super Mamás goes, “I get knocked down, but I get up again…”
