Episode 317: Declutter Your Room, Your Mind & Your Life with Ria Safford, Professional Organizer & CEO of RíOrganize

Summer always seems like the perfect time for those organization projects you mean to do all year. This week’s guest, Ria Safford, is here to help us get organized! She is the go-to celebrity professional organizer and CEO of luxury home organization business RíOrganize. This mama started her side hustle to help other moms, and now it’s a full blown business with a team who has organized for people like Paris Hilton and Jen Atkin. She share tips on how to shift your mind into organization mode, create a system that works for you, and most of all reminds us that it’s okay to be messy. Organization is a process - whether you’re tackling bathroom drawers or something in your life - you just have to be willing to ask yourself the right questions.

More about Ria: It all started 10 hours after she gave birth to her son when an inquiry from Jen Atkin came through. Knowing this project would change her career, Ria didn’t think twice with her instant reply - “When do you need me?” She was right. Organizing Jen Atkin’s closet in 2019 did blow her business up. Today, Ria has worked with top-celebrity clients such as Chrissy Teigan, and Paris Hilton.

As a mother of three, Ria felt chaotic and found resolve in decluttering and organizing her home. Her home began to feel like an outward expression of her internal state with a cluttered home leading to a cluttered feeling in the mind. With this revelation, she set out to help others find peace of mind by cultivating and curating functional living spaces for others. She set out to organize spaces, sure, but she really set out to help improve the intimate spaces we spend most of our lives within.

Easy steps to start getting organized

  • Have an organizing mindset

  • Empty you space completely. Start with a blank canvas.

  • Categorize all your items before you purge.

  • Before you purge, make sure everything is in the right room.

  • Space planning - understand what your daily habits are, daily routines, things your grabbing regularly. When setting up a space, have your most used items first and work your way back.

  • Once you have this planned, then shop for product & labels.

Organizing like this isn’t for everyone! Make it make sense for you and your life.

Pick or Tip of the Week

Bricia’s pick this week are these disposable makeup wipes from Clean Skin Club. They’re better than using a hand towel or cotton balls because they’re dry and biodegradable.

Sticking to the theme of organization, Paulina finally found a set of small drawers that fit under her bathroom cabinet. She keeps extra bathroom products like q tips, pads, even the makeup cleansing wipes that Bricia mentioned.

She also has a tip - when you begin to search for items to help your organization process, don’t just buy random baskets and drawers because they’re cute or they’ll look good in your space. Buy with intention. Measure your space and then take your measuring tape to the store and measure the products! Paulina actually shops with her measuring tape now so she can do this.

Episode 316: Adventure is Out There with Tori Bolt, co-owner of Bolt Farm Treehouse & Airbnb Superhost

We love a good vacation this time of year! This week’s guest is Airbnb super host, Tori Bolt. We have previously mentioned why we love renting homes while on vacation versus staying in hotels (with Bricia recently launching her own rental property on Airbnb), and after our conversation with Tori, we know we’ll be adventuring in rental homes for more vacations to come. Tori explains how she and her husband created Bolt Farm Treehouse, what it takes to be a great rental host, and how faith guides her and her husband in all that they do. She has such a calm yet adventurous spirit, and we’re ready to book our next experience in one of her special homes!

More about Tori: Tori Bolt is co-founder of Bolt Farm Treehouse, an inspiring place to reconnect with nature, the people you love, and your purpose, and the leader in luxury outdoor travel. What started as a treehouse for Tori & Seth’s wedding day quickly became, under Tori’s marketing & PR prowess, a nationally recognized brand featured on Netflix, a celebrity hot spot, and named the most popular Airbnb in South Carolina by Buzzfeed.

Before building treehouses and operating these one-of-a-kind boutique hotel-vacation rental hybrids, Tori was a news producer and entertainment reporter, which is how she met her husband, Seth, founding member of the band Needtobreathe. Now, Tori leads the Bolt Farm Treehouse team and utilizes her passion for PR while Seth, the company’s visionary, dreams up future designs. Her mission is to create intentional, inspiring environments that help travelers reconnect, and to inspire female entrepreneurs to chase their dreams, live their best life as they pursue meaningful work & meaningful relationships.

Expectations as a Short Term Rental Guest (from Superhost Tori)

  1. The fewer rules, the better. No one wants to read a giant binder of rules, just mention the important ones.

  2. You attract people in the way you write your description. I.e. If you don’t want party people, don’t describe your space as “great space for entertaining,” etc.

  3. Highly recommend a personalized welcome video! Explain a few rules, how to use certain things like hot tub, tv, etc.

  4. Tips for guests so they have the best stay. It keeps that personal touch.

  5. Tori’s NUMBER ONE pet peeve as a guest: “Don’t give me a long list of check out instructions especially if you’re going to have a high cleaning fee.”

3 things hosts can do to motivate guests to leave reviews

  • Ask them! Send a follow up message once they check out.

  • Do the work for them. If they say something kind to you, remind them that they can copy and paste it into their review.

  • Give them an incentive. Maybe a coffee mug, discount off their next stay, t shirt, etc. People love a good freebie!

Pick or Tip of the Week

Bricia’s husband gifted her an Oura Ring for Mother’s Day and she’s obsessed with all the information it provides. It tells you when you might be getting sick, tracks your period, when you get good sleep and what you did that day that made a difference in your sleep. She’s learning so many things about her daily habits that she never noticed before!

Since Paulina is still on her journey or reorganizing her home, she is loving these Ziploc Space bags. She’s packing away all the winter coats, big comforters, and they really are saving her space in the cabinets!

Episode 305: Generational Wealth, Rallying for Your Community and Moving On with mom boss with Patty Rodriguez

One of our greatest amigas, Patty Rodriguez, is back for a new episode! If you’re Angelenos like we are, you know that she just made a major move, leaving KIIS FM after over 15 years as a producer. Now she’s ready to grow in other ventures and she’s starting with helping her community. Patty talks to us about equity crowd funding for her company, Lil Libros, and why the time is right for our community to learn to invest & build generational wealth. She reminds us that it takes courage to change & make our dreams come to life, and we can’t wait to watch her dreams come come true during this next chapter of her life.

Patty is a great role model, an example leader and an inspirational super mama just looking to make her community a better place. We are honored to know her, excited for her next moves and hope you enjoy her episode!

More about Patty: Patty Rodriguez is one of the most influential American Latino leaders as a nationally recognized entrepreneur, radio producer, media personality, founder, angel investor, and best-selling author. Proudly raised in Los Angeles by Mexican immigrant parents, she has dedicated her work to elevating the voices and stories of the American Latino experience.

Patty founded Lil’ Libros, the #1 family-trusted bilingual children's media publisher, inspired by her journey toward motherhood and desire to raise her children in a bilingual environment that valued understanding, respect, and appreciation of their family's culture. After Lil’ Libros received numerous rejections from major publishers, she immediately recognized the historically underserved market she represented. Patty took matters into her own hands, partnering with childhood friend Ariana Stein to propel Lil’ Libros into what would become the critically acclaimed publishing company and industry titan. With over a million books sold, Lil’ Libros is recognized in the Latino community and beyond with shelf space at Target, Barnes & Noble, museums, boutiques, and independent sellers alike nationwide.

Her passion for uplifting her community extends past children's books, as Lil’ Libros became the first children’s media company to be community-owned. In 2021, over $2 million in equity crowdfunding was raised from over 5,000 investors in less than five days. As an influential Latina entrepreneur, Patty has also made angel investments in early-stage startups, including Hedley & Bennett and BLVD MRKT.

Being a storyteller at heart, Patty launched sin miedo productions in 2021 with longtime friend, Erick Galindo. Their first project, Out of the Shadows: Children of ‘86, is currently in production with iHeartMedia and explores the lives of children who were raised by the three million immigrants granted amnesty through the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.

Patty got her start at iHeartMedia’s 102.7 KIIS FM Los Angeles, infusing culture on and off the air for over 15 years working as a Senior Producer and On-Air Talent of the internationally syndicated radio show, "On Air With Ryan Seacrest." She also founded MALA by Patty Rodriguez, a jewelry line aiming to empower women to take pride in their identity through fashion. Fans of the collection include Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, and Becky G.

Among her accomplishments, Patty launched a grassroots campaign asking MAC Cosmetics to create a line in honor of the late Selena Quintanilla. Her petition collected over 30,000 signatures in just days, receiving national coverage in English and Spanish and capturing the attention of the makeup giant. The MAC x Selena collection was successfully released in October of 2016, making it the best-selling cosmetics collection of all time, proving the buying power of the Latino community.

Patty has been recognized as California’s Woman of the Year, along with having received the LA Times Latinos De Hoy Cultural Influencer Award. She has been featured in the New York Times, Forbes, NPR, USA Today, LA Times, People, Buzzfeed, Univision, Rolling Stone, CNN Latino, Latina Magazine, People En Español, Cosmopolitan, and American Latino TV to name a few.

She currently lives in Los Angeles with her two beautiful boys, Alexander and Oliver, and their ten guppies.

Episode 300: Regarding Her Big Owner Energy with Dina Samson, restauranteur and co-founder of RE:Her

Everyone is always what else we do for work (because yes, we have real jobs besides the podcast!) and in this episode we talk about one of Bricia’s passion projects. This week we interview Dina Samson, restauranteur and co-founder of RE:Her. The non-profit started as a covid era support group for women owned restaurants like the Lopez family’s Guelaguetza and Dina’s Rossoblu and Superfine Pizza, and now continues to support & encourage women in the hospitality industry and the communities they serve. Dina also runs us through her busy days as a twin mom and how she structures the rest of her restauranteur work between mom life, and she’s sharing her best advice for restaurant owners that mamas can also use when raising their kids.

More about Dina: Dina Samson adeptly assumed the role of “unexpected restaurateur” when she opened her first restaurant, Sotto, alongside husband/chef Steve Samson, in 2011. Since then, she has become the visionary and operational glue for their two concepts, Rossoblu and Superfine Pizza which fall under their newly formed Mighty Nice Hospitality Group.

True to their hospitality group’s core values of compassion and community, Dina has co-founded RE:Her, Independent Hospitality Coalition, and FeedLoveLA, all organizations which focus on supporting and uplifting the Los Angeles restaurant community. Samson is both a James Beard Foundation Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership and C200 WinLab fellow.

More about RE:Her: Nine female restaurateurs in Los Angeles formed Regarding Her (aka RE:Her) in November 2020 as a response to the devastating impact of Covid-19 on the restaurant industry. Their first undertaking, 10 Days RE:Her, united over 100 female food and beverage entrepreneurs across Los Angeles for a 10-day festival featuring unique collaborations, thematic menus, virtual events and conversations, and more.

RE:Her is a 501(c)(3) non-profit fund actively seeking donors and sponsors to support its services and initiatives, including its RE:Her Grant Program, designed to distribute cash grants to women-owned restaurants in Los Angeles County impacted by the pandemic.

The members of RE:Her’s leadership team operate the organization, and do so pro bono. Their hope is that their work will support and empower the community they hold dear – the female-led culinary world of Los Angeles and beyond – and, in doing so, help to save HER restaurants.

Pick or Tip of the Week

We always talk about the importance of self care! One of Paulina’s self care practices includes studying her Bible. She always reads it in the morning and journals, and she found pens and highlights made specifically for thin Bible pages. They’re by Mr. Pen in the Amazon store and they have plenty of options at different price points. It makes her self care experience that much better!

Bricia pick is the Good Notes app on her iPad. You can create anything for taking notes! She uses it for her Bible study and even created her own template based on the templates available on the app.

Episode 297: Keeping It Real with the Super Mamas: Damn Loca, Where You Been?

Surprise! We’re back after a much needed break.

No, we weren’t fighting 🤣🤣In all honesty, we needed to let the podcast take a backseat while we focused on the restuarnt, our families and especially our mental health. We felt we needed to recharge because 2021 was more difficult than 2020 in a sense - we were dealing with the aftermath of the beginning of the decade. Our family’s restaurant and other businesses needed more of our attention, and we couldn’t dedicate as much time as we wanted to the podcast. So we both did some reflecting and thought about what we really wanted out this community we’ve created.

And you know what? That hiatus worked. We’re refreshed and know exactly where we’re taking our little podcast project. So sit back and catch up with us as we explain where we’re at in our lives and where we’re taking you next. Super Mamas, let’s do this!

GEMS 💎 from this episode

I had a choice. Do I sit back and wait for life happen to me? Or say okay I have to do something because I don’t want to live my life like this anymore. - Paulina

I needed to learn, I needed to grow and now I’m here. - Paulina

The more you grow and the more you put yourself in situations that make you uncomfortable, thats where growth happens. - Bricia

As you grow you have to deal with the demons that are inside of you. - Bricia

When we get stuck doing something we don’t like, more often than not its just based off other peoples expectations. - Bricia

It’s important that the decisions that you make aren’t based on others expectations, but are based on your inner reflections and what you choose to do for yourself and what’s best for you in that moment. Not let other peoples opinions drive you because that could be the end of your mental health. - Bricia

Pick or Tip of the Week

Paulina’s pick is the show Never Have I Ever on Netflix. It’s the cutest show and it’s a good introduction to what teenage years could be like for any parents who are about to be there, like Pau.

Speaking about shows of high school kids, we’re still very into Euphoria - but these are two different high school experiences and definitely not a show for kids.

Bricia’s pick this week is also a show. The Sex Life of College Girls created by Mindy Kaling. Another show that isn’t for kids (I think we’re starting to see a theme here LOL) but more great prep for parents whose kids are going to college soon.

Episode 287: Taking Care of the Family Business with McDonald’s Franchisees Lisa De Bono & Jenny Briones

Talk about a parallel universe! This has never happened to us, but for this week’s episode we interview two mamas who are not just sisters but also business partners & restaurant owners! Lisa De Bono and Jenny Briones are owners & operators of local Los Angeles and Orange counties McDonald’s restaurants. In this interview, we bond over the ins & outs of running a family business as well as the blessings & boundaries that come with working with family. These sisters have so much love for the community and they truly love what they do. It’s like they say: “We have ketchup running through their veins!”

More about Jenny & Lisa: Lisa De Bono & Jenny Briones are moms, sisters and 3rd generation McDonald’s Franchisees. They operate eight McDonald’s restaurants in LA and Orange Counties with their mother, Isabelle Villasenor and Jenny’s husband, Aaron Briones.

They grew up in the McDonald’s family as their grandparents got into the business in 1968 and their mother becoming an owner/operator in 1981. Throughout their high school days at Mater Dei High School, they worked together in the restaurants during holidays and summers. Lisa says, “No matter who you are or where you came from, McDonald’s is the perfect first job.  You learn the basics of any business, from customer service to ‘the bottom line’ and simple practices like teamwork and responsibility.”

Their mother, Isabelle, always insisted on education first. In 1992, Lisa graduated from the University of California, Los Angeles with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature and an emphasis in Business Administration.  She continued to be involved in the McDonald’s business while working for UCLA Campus Events and holding an internship at a literary agency.  Upon graduation, Lisa accepted a position as the literary agent’s assistant.

In 1994, Jenny graduated from the USC with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications and pursued her dreams of a career in McDonald’s.  “As long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a McDonald’s Owner/Operator.  It was evident early on that I had ‘ketchup in my veins.’”

Jenny trained as a manager in the Cypress restaurant and graduated from Hamburger University in 1995.  Jenny received the McDonald’s Outstanding Store Manager Award in 1996.  In 1997, she was promoted to General Manager and shortly thereafter she became Supervisor.  That same year, Jenny completed the McDonald’s Next Generation Program and was officially recognized as a McDonald’s Owner Operator.

In 1993, after a conversation with her mother about the McDonald’s business and realizing she was more stimulated by “McDonald’s talk” than her current business, Lisa changed focus and began the McDonald’s Management Development Program.  Lisa trained as a manager in the Artesia restaurant and graduated from Hamburger University in 1995.  That same year Lisa received the McDonald’s Outstanding Store Manager Award for her accomplishments at the John Wayne Airport McDonald’s restaurants.  In 1996, she was promoted to General Manager and in 1997 she became Supervisor.  Also in April 1997, Lisa completed the McDonald’s Next Generation Program and was officially recognized as a McDonald’s Owner Operator.

Although Covid has changed the way they engage with the community, the sisters continue to be a support to the nearby communities and constantly promote and connect with local schools, churches and sports organizations.  They look forward to the day when they can to advocate for children through programs such as McTeacher’s Nights, Feeding Healthy Families nutritional workshops, Open Doors, Family Day and Coffee with a Cop.

Today, Lisa and Jenny run the restaurants with their mother and Jenny’s husband. They relish in the challenges & rewards, as well as appreciate and enjoy carrying on the tradition of a family business. Jenny is married to her Mater Dei High School sweetheart, Aaron, and is the proud mom of Jake (21) Michael (19) and Sara Isabelle (15). Lisa and her husband, Paul, are blessed with their children Anthony (22) and Joshua (20).

A Special Donation from McDonald’s, Lisa & Jenny on behalf of the Super Mamas

As moms, organizations that prioritize mothers and families are very near and dear to us. When McDonald’s offered to make a donation on our behalf to an organization of our choice, the first program we thought of was My Safe Harbor. My Safe Harbor’s mission is to strengthen families by empowering and equipping mothers. They accomplish this by creating programs like the Mother’s Club, where moms can enjoy friendship, skill-building, and learning together. They also offer enrichments electives, which offer an opportunity for mothers to dive deeper into relevant topics and skills. Elective classes are held once a week for 2-4 weeks and cover a range of topics from sewing and cooking to building self-esteem and parenting.

This organization is incredible in the work that it performs and the resources they provide for the community. The Super Mamas, Lisa and Jenny are honored to make this donation to My Safe Harbor!

Since we’re talking all things beauty this episode, Bricia’s pick this week is Sweet Street Cosmetics L.A. Lady eyeshadow palette. Its neutral, bronze-y and beautiful. She also highly recommends their liquid lipsticks. Her tip is to put on a quick swipe of the liquid lipstick before a Zoom call and it instantly makes you look so put together.

Paulina has been waiting for La Libreria to open up during quarantine and it finally is! It’s a great place to find libros en español for your kids. They are following social distancing protocols when visiting in store and you can also shop online. There are many books that you won’t find on Amazon, books from other countries, all ages from baby to teens - each of Paulina’s girls picked up books they loved!

Episode 253: Learning to Feel Your Best, Nourish Your Body, and Thrive Postpartum with Lorena Garcia, CEO of Majka

Hola Octubre! Fall is here and the year is winding down. Even though we’ve spent most of the year indoors, it feels like it has flown by.

Lately we have been talking a lot about the fourth trimester and how important it is for moms to prepare not just for pregnancy, but for after baby’s arrival. This week’s guest completely agrees. We interview Lorena Garcia, co-founder and CEO of Majka, a brand dedicated to helping support moms thrive postpartum with resources and lactation bites, boosters, oats, and more and we’re big fans.

The three of us are sharing stories about our Mexican moms and entrepreneurial tips we’ve learned throughout the years, but we also talk about Lorena’s personal experience of her fourth trimester and her inspiration behind creating Majka. She shares why it’s okay to ask questions during pregnancy and ask for help & support after baby, and how we must learn to prioritize ourselves because we are not just moms; we are still our own people who need to heal.

More about Lorena: Lorena Garcia is Mexican entrepreneur and currently the co-Founder and CEO of Majka, a brand dedicated to help support moms to thrive postpartum. Lorena has founded and managed multiple successful businesses and is a digital marketing and branding expert.

Lorena’s Favorite Majka Recipe

Lorena’s youngest son was born earlier this year, so she is incorporating Majka into her daily routine to help nourish herself and baby! She shared her favorite smoothie recipe below to try with the lactation booster. You can find more recipes for drinks with lactation boosters and lactation bites on Majka’s blog.

Pick or Tip of the Week

Bricia keeps getting swindled by Instagram ads. 😂 She loves biker shorts and found these by Blanqui which are designed specifically for postpartum. It’s like a faja and shorts all in one.

Paulina’s pick is a face paint kit from Amazon that she bought for Zixta. It’s tough to keep her occupied while Sabina and Krista are doing their school work, but Paulina paints Z’s face in the morning and tells her to transform into whatever animal she’s painted, and it works! She plays pretend all day.

Her other tip is the game called Spot It and Spot It Jr., available in both english and spanish. Paulina sets it up for the girls while she’s making lunch or doing something for work, and it keeps them entertained together.

Pick or Tip of the Week

Bricia’s pick is another loungewear pick, because you know she likes to be comfy at home with her two month old daughter, Augustina. She loves this cropped sweater from Aerie. It’s lightweight which is great as the seasons start to change and it’s easy to breastfeed Augustina when she wears it.

Paulina’s pick is a Mexican movie on Netflix called, “All the Freckles in the World”. It’s such a cute love story and reminded her of when you’re growing up and have your first crush. It would be so cute to watch with your pre-teens or teenagers.

Episode 244: Clean Beauty for the New Mom and Beyond with Gabriela Babila creator of @MatanaOrganics

You know we are big fans of beauty products and self care. We find that incorporating our beauty and skincare routines into our days is one of the easiest ways to get self care as busy moms, and this week’s super mama guest understand that.

This week we interview Gabriela Babila, creator of clean beauty brand Matana Organics Skincare. She started her business when she realized she couldn’t find clean, safe beauty skin care products during her pregnancy and began making them at home. The line is nature-inspired skin care for pregnancy, postpartum and all mothers who seek clean, safe, and organic products and best of all it’s organic, plant based, and cruelty free.  Gabriela talks to us about how she became fascinated with the beauty & power of plants, and using nature to create her skincare line. Her passion & positivity for her family, her business, and motherhood really shine in this episode and she is dropping all the gems (or matanas, as you’ll learn) that we needed to hear.

More about Gabriela Babila: Founder, wife, girl mom, LA Native and clean beauty enthusiast, Gabriela Babila is the heartbeat and face behind the brand, Matana Organics. With a background in psychology and expecting her first child, Gabriela knew how important it was to nurture the body AND mind during this transition. Struggling to find safe and effective skincare products to help manage all of the physical changes pregnancy would induce, she thought about her own mom, an immigrant + single mother, and how she would approach her concerns. Her mother didn't have much, what she used for skincare she made, teaching Gabriela the power of natural remedies. So she decide to make it. And now she is sharing it with all mothers.

Matanas from this week’s episode

Matanas = gift in Hebrew

“I love being a mom but there’s more to my identity.” - Gabriela Babila

“The desire to become an entrepreneur, to do something that i was passionate about; I couldn’t hide that from myself.” - Gabriela Babila

“The fear is not enough of a reason to not go for it.” - Gabriela Babila

“I cant worry about what can go wrong because what if it doesn’t go wrong? What if it goes right? And I’ve wasted precious time and precious brain power thinking negatively.” - Bricia Lopez

Episode 243: Making Language Learning Fun with @bilingual_birdies founder, Sarah Farzam

So many businesses have had to adjust under quarantine but this week's guest had her business flourish even more online. This week we speak to Sarah Farzam, CEO of the bilingual education program, Bilingual Birdies. She shares how her program uses music to help kids stay engaged and excited about speaking a second or even a third language, and how you can make some extra cash as well while keeping the kids busy this summer. Estas Lista? Escucha ahora mismo!

More about Sarah Farzam: Sarah is half Mexican and half Iranian and grew up speaking Spanish, Farsi and English. She’s from L.A. and graduated from UCLA with a BA in English.  In 2006, with zero business experience, Sarah launched Bilingual Birdies, a foreign language and live music program for children up to age six. Today Bilingual Birdies teaches Spanish, French, Mandarin, and English to thousands of children per week across 21 cities in the US, Canada, and Australia through their online training program which certifies and licenses bilingual and educators to launch their own Bilingual Birdies businesses in their own city.

Enrolled families benefit from original Bilingual Birdies products such as bilingual ebooks, music albums, and the most adorable bird puppets you have ever seen in your entire life.  Under Sarah’s leadership, Bilingual Birdies educators have traveled to Guanajuato, Mexico to volunteer and preform in the children’s section of La Calaca Festival., journeyed to Paris, France to train early educators on how to implement their methodology to teach English to children in a fun and musical way, and most recently they traveled to Nairobi, Kenya to volunteer at Little Ray of Hope, an informal preschool in Kawangware, the country’s second largest slum. Nearly 13 years after Sarah started Bilingual Birdies she is more motivated than ever to identify bilingual educators with an entrepreneurial spirit who are looking to share their language and culture with children, make money doing what they love, and transform their communities to encourage future generations of global thinking, open-minded humans. You can learn more about Sarah Farzam and Bilingual Birdies at bilingualbirdies.com

Our Conversation with Sarah

Tell us about yourself. How are you? How is life in quarantine?

You’re trilingual! Tell us about your company. Is this how is began?

How many languages do you teach? What is the age range of your students?

How has your business shifted with covid?

What does a class with Bilingual Birdies look like?

What are some tools that you recommend for my parents to use at home to help teach your children another language?

How often are your students taking classes in order for them to feel comfortable speaking the language?

Do you need to be a musicican to start the program as a teacher?

When covid is over and we are no longer required to do social distance learning, can our kids take this class in person?

Sarah’s Tips for Making Second Language Learning Fun

  • Amp up second language learning in any area you can! If it feels like homework, chances are your kids won’t want to learn it. Work at it everyday based on your child’s interest.

  • Reading books and singing songs/listening to music in another language is a great introduction to the love of language learning.

  • Play based learning is super effective. Bilingual birdies gets your kids dancing and moving with the use of puppets, props and more, and you can do the same thing at home!

  • Turn learning into a game by incorporating the new language into your daily routine. Breakfast, bath time, and cleaning can be an opportunity to get stuff done and learn new words and phrases.

  • Check out video.oznoz.com to watch your kid’s favorite cartoons in up to 10 different languages.

This mama of three talk to us how she & her husband started their business by switching from pizza to paletas. She was looking for some “me-time” from her full-time stay-at-home-mom life (aren’t we all 🤣) and ended up creating a yummy new business venture. Amy also shares her best tips for turning a side hustle into a career (a.k.a. save a lot of money & don’t quit your day job just yet!) and how to communicate with your spouse when they're also your business partner. is a go-getter who puts her trust in God to make sh*t happen, and she’ll make you feel determined to make your dreams into reality.

Before the episode, we’re talking about Bricia’s big announcement - she’s pregnant! This is why we’ve been eating so much and talking about our taco orders. 🌮 Send her all of the best pregnancy and baby products you recommend because she’s starting from scratch. Paulina also talks about how she and her husband and done having kids (yep, we’re talking about vasectomies again 🤣).

Pick of Tip of the Week

Paulina’s pick is such a mom pick. It can be a struggle to wake up her daughters for school in the morning, but Alexa has made it so much easier. You can customize the alarm to different songs, celebrity voices and sound bites. It’s simple and helpful and her daughters love it. Learn more here

Bricia is asking for tips this week! She’s not a fan of the belly band during pregnancy (it just desnt work for her 🤷🏽‍♀️) but she is still looking for something she can wear as her belly grows. Let us know in the comments if there’s anything you recommend! Other tips she has for preggo mamas as she gets closer to her due date are rubber bands for her pants that her mom taught her, drawstring pants and long shirts. Her pick of the week is bio oil which is keeping her skin really hydrated.

Episode 218: Live Your Story & Get What You Want with Gardenia Ramirez of @lolaytula

.jpg

Did you miss us? We’re back with a new episode after a holiday break! This week, we sit down with Gardenia Ramirez, founder and owner of LOLA Y TULA, a curated collection of handmade Mexican folk art. She talks about her “little” business she created out of love, passion, and necessity, plus all about her family and how her mom showed her that you should always go further, learn more, and get what you want. She really believes that you can have a big idea, but you need to believe in yourself, try all the things, have a good product, plan, & story - then you’ll make it.

Before the episode, Bricia also shares about her surprise wedding anniversary trip, and it’s a story you’ll want to share with your partner as inspiration for your next couple’s getaway. If you haven’t heard the story about white roses, you’ll want to listen to our Valentine’s Day episode from a few years ago. To keep it short and sweet, her husband surprised her with an incredible trip to Napa, packed all of her outfits for her (that was a surprise on it’s own), and took her to The French Laundry. Check out the rest of her itinerary below!

Bricia’s Surprise Napa Trip

Brunch at The French Laundry

Calistoga Ranch

Hot Air Balloon Ride

Pick or Tip of the Week

Bricia really wanted her pick of the week to be the perfect date dress that her husband surprised her with during their trip (look at how cute they are at the French Laundry), but she can’t find it ANYWHERE. So she changed it to these great boots from Macy’s, and she always gets a ton of compliments whenever she wears them. She has them in white and black, super comfortable!

Paulina’s tip is very Paulina. It’s the Arnicare Pain Relief Gel, and it’s great for sore muscles. It was in a gift bag that she received earlier this year, and it really came in handy after she ran her half marathon next month.

Episode 208: Taking Chances in Your Career & Knowing Your Worth with Jennifer Lopez of @CamilaCreative

XW7A5226.jpg

Time for a new episode! This week we interview our very own Jennifer Lopez, founder/CEO of Camila Creative, a communications agency in LA. If you didn’t know, Jennifer is our PR manager and makes A LOT of Super Mamas magic happen. We talk to her about what it was like to be the one-woman show of her company (founder, accountant, investor, HR - you name it, she does it), knowing when it’s time to expand your team, why it’s important to be confident in your choices and why knowing your self-worth can make the biggest difference in your career. She’s also sharing great tips about the world of influencers and what brands are looking for in a partnership.

Pick or Tip of the Week

After Paulina’s mom said she was getting old, 😂she decided to get back on her skincare regimen , but then she noticed how she neglects her hands, legs, basically everything that that isn’t her face. She realized she had a sample of lotion called Gloves in a Bottle, and she loves it. It really leaves the skin soft and silky, and she has noticed a huge difference.

Bricia’s pick this week is an app that she’s obsessed with. She was meal prepping this week and realized she always uses the New York Times Cooking app. The email newsletter is great because it always comes with a recipe, and the app also has a variety of options for school lunches, on the go snacks, and dinner recipes. She finds herself checking the app if she is looking for a new recipe or is looking for inspiration, so check it out!

Episode 207: Reconnecting with Yourself through Skincare with Leah Guerrero of @brujitaskincare

DSC_8038-Edit.jpg

It’s a new month and a new episode! This week we talk to Leah Guerrero of Brujita Skincare, a Latina owned brand from Los Angeles, California. Brujita Skincare focuses on making essential skincare with ingredients sourced from mercado’s throughout Mexico. We talk about the basics of skincare, the importance of taking care of yourself, how she found her niche in holistic skincare and became a brujita of skincare. We were in awe of Leah throughout this entire interview, and we know you’ll be under her spell ✨ when you hear her speak.

Pick or Tip of the Week

Paulina’s pick this week is a new show on Netflix that her sister, Elizabeth, recommended and it’s as good as Game of Thrones. It’s called “Casa de Papel”, a show from Spain (also called “Money Heist”). It’s a good thriller/mystery and it will have you on the edge of your seat!

Bricia’s pick is a movie on Hulu called “A Simple Favor” with Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick. It’s SO funny and weird, and Bricia loved it! She also watched another PG rated romantic comedy called “Falling in Love” because her son, Eddie loves romcoms. 😂

Episode 205: Event Planning 101 with Evelyn Jimenez of @HarlowPlanning

2019SMS051119_434.jpg

Time for a new episode! This week we talk to Evelyn Jimenez of Harlow Planning. Now a major part of team Super Mamas (she turns our SM Social dreams into reality ✨), she was one of our first guests on the show and now she’s back with updates. Evelyn talks about how she made the jump from corporate life to running her event company full time and how you need to be confident & relentless when it comes to following your dreams. Plus she shares tips on how to throw your own event!

Before the interview, we talk about how summer is winding down but we still have lots of plans. Paulina is working out everyday and Bricia has a trip to Baja this weekend. Also, the book is coming out in just a few months and you can pre-order it on Target, Amazon and Barnes & Noble now! Screenshot your pre-orders and tag us on Instagram - you know we love and appreciate your support! 😝

Pick or Tip of the Week

Paulina’s tip is to pack ahead of time for a trip. When she was getting ready to leave to Oaxaca, she realized she normally leaves packing to the last minute, but for this trip she started packing a few days early and packed her essentials like deodorant + makeup right before she left. It helped her feel a lot less stressed, especially since she was traveling with the baby.

Bricia’s tip is loving Babe Waves Hair Waving Iron from theproductjunkie.com. She has the straightest hair, but this wand gives her mermaid hair. It’s not beach waves, but mermaid hair. It takes a while but it has a really good tutorial and she is obsessed! Also, please pre-order the book. 🙏🏽

Episode 204: From Mall Punk to Jefa Life with Patty Delgado of @hijadetumadre

B443D5F5-FF5B-4034-8DD2-2E48A431ADED.JPG

August is here and we have a new episode for you! This week we interview Patty Delgado of Hija de tu Madre. She’s a plant-mom 🌿 who created Hija de tu Madre to be a safe space that is empowering and represents latino culture. Patty talks to us about how she created her lifestyle brand, how hard it can be to build a team & work with different personalities, and her support system that is her parents & the Jefas Crew.

Before the interview, Paulina is talking about how excited she is to be in Oaxaca right now (yes, we pre-recorded this intro 😬) and both mamas remember how they used to perform at the Guelaguetza in Oaxaca. We’re also talking about the new lingo that we learned during our interview with Patty. 😂 #mallPunk #mallChola

Pick or Tip of the Week

Bricia’s recommendation this week is a massage ball. She’s been using a GoFit 5 inch Massage Ball - Muscle Pain Management. There’s so many different options on Amazon and honestly it’s like an at home massage.

Paulina’s pick this week is Hugh Spa in Koreatown, Los Angeles. She got a 30 minute scrub and a one hour massage where the woman got on top of her and was stepping on her, kneeing her, elbowing her - it was the best massage she had in a long time AND it was only $100. The spa is women only, very mellow and different from other Korean spas, but she is definitely making this a monthly thing.
