Episode 323: Keeping It Real with the Super Mamas: Crazy Parties, Back to School and Spa Water Vibes

Our summer is ending, but that doesn’t mean the fun is stopping for these Super Mamas! On this week’s episode, Paulina is back from Oaxaca and the sisters have a good ol’ catch-up session. We talk about Bricia’s adventures being a blonde; she says people are a lot nicer but people also accused her of spa water vibes. 🤣 Bricia also attended a crazy party that made her feel like she was in Vegas, and their little sister Liz turned 30! We’re also staring to get into back-to-school mode with Krista, Paulina’s oldest, starting middle school and Augustina, Bricia’s youngest, going into a daycare program. It seems like summer is officially over, our kids are growing up before our eyes and we might not be ready for it!

Pick or Tip of the Week

Two of the BEST shows Bricia has seen this year are The Offer with Miles Teller and The Bear on Hulu. She also recently watched the cutest movie with Eduardo when they had a mom & son date night - Princess Protection Program on Disney+.

Paulina is asking for tips this week! She hates seeing electronics cables all over her house, so she purchased these cable wraps, but she really wants to know if anyone has any has any better, maybe prettier suggestions to hiding cables in your home. We’ll put up an Instagram Story later this week, but you can also send us a DM or email us at hello@supermamas.com with suggestions!

Watch MrBeast on YouTube. We also talk about this proposal video, island giveaway and his guest appearance on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

Paulina’s daughters have watched Super Pets and Cheaper By The Dozen this summer, and she highly recommends!

Episode 290: Keeping It Real with the Super Mamas: Mastering New Skills & Back to In-Person School

How is summer break almost over?! This week we are catching up with each other since our kids have been so busy at summer camp, which they’ve loved. We talk about the relationships they made during camp and new skills - like singing, piano lessons and skateboarding - they’re picking up & thriving in. By the way, did you know it takes 10k hours to master a skill? Lastly we’re dropping some special gems during this week’s pick of the week, so turn your speakers up!

Pick or Tip of the Week

Bricia’s pick this week is a podcast that’s she’s been obsessing over called My First Million. One episode in particular, with Codie Sanchez, has been the reason for the shift in her mindset to create more opportunities for herself. She’s thinking big instead of staying inside the box. Check out the episode linked here and let us know what you think about it!

Of course Paulina’s pick has to be about going back to school! Every school year, the teachers at Paulina’s daughters’ school create school supplies lists. This school year we’ve partnered with Amazon and joined their #ClearTheList movement. Amazon will help the #ClearTheLists for these education heroes across the country by purchasing products from their Amazon Wish Lists that they most need and want ahead of this school year. And you can help too! Whether you’re fulfilling a list for one of your loved ones or just doing a good deed to help a stranger out, you know we’ll always encourage our Super Mamas community to help a sister. This is such a feel good campaign, and we love to see students & teachers benefit from it!

For more info on this campaign and how you can create your own Amazon Wish List, check out our latest Instagram post - and yes, there is a giveaway!

Eduardo, the Beyblade Collector, has the coolest setup like these tops and stadium.

Watch Volume 2 of Song Exploders on Netflix to check out Dua Lipa’s voice. It’s the vibe we get when we listen to Sabina sing.

We also talk about how long it takes to master a skill, which is apparently 10,000 hours. I guess we’ll work on our skills one hour a day for the next 30 years. 😂

Episode 272: Dealing with Post-Pandemic Anxiety in Children with Dr. Maritza Mikolich, PsyD, LMFT

The world may be getting ready to reopen again, but are our kids ready for in-person school after a year of virtual learning? We speak with therapist Dr. Maritza Mikolich about anxiety issues our children might be facing when going back to post-pandemic life. We talk about behavioral signs to look for and how to listen and validate their feelings. She also offers tips on how to help them get back to normal in-person socialization in a safe & healthy way!

Before the episode, we’re talking about Eddie going back to school! He’s so excited to see his friends and it feels like he grew up overnight (or during quarantine 🤣) because he’s getting ready for school on his own and even packing his school snacks, including the new plant-based Sabra Kids Snack Kits. We dared Eddie, Krista and Sabina to try the snacks and all they talked about was how good they were! The girls love the yummy Brownie Batter flavor and Eddie can’t get enough of the Taco dip, especially the delicious tortilla chips. We’re daring YOU to dare your kids to try these snacks - we know they’ll love it!

More about Dr. Maritza Mikolich: Maritza is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a doctoral degree in psychology. “I come from a traditional Mexican family, raised in the United States and spoke Spanish as my first language. My parents were born and raised in Michoacan, Mexico and moved to the U.S. for the American dream of giving their family better opportunities. It was that dream that highly motivated me to follow my passion by going to college and studying psychology when I discovered it in high school. I was the first college graduate in my extended family to get a college education. I obtained my bachelors degree at the University of San Diego, my masters degree at Saint Thomas University in Florida and my doctorate degree at Alliant International University in San Diego. During my studies, I had the opportunity to study abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico and Madrid, Spain.

“I have therapy experience working in different settings including: youth and parents in foster care, teenagers in group homes, children in schools who struggled with behavioral issues, individuals struggling with co-parenting issues, and crisis intervention with all age groups. During the pandemic, in October 2020, I decided to start my private practice in hopes of giving back to the Hispanic community. I provide psychotherapy primarily to adults in English and Spanish virtually through telephone and video throughout the state of California. I provide individual, family and couples therapy virtually to people struggling with depression, anxiety,  trauma, life stressors, and relational problems.”

Pick or Tip of the Week

Bricia’s pick is the covid vaccine. She and Paulina are lucky enough to have received their first rounds of the shot and they are very thankful they’re on the road back to normal life. Bricia suggest doing the research, finding reliable sources and talking to your doctor about any questions you might have. If it’s your turn and you can get the vaccine, get it! You can find more information at myturn.ca.gov.

Paulina’s pick is Crazy Aaron’s Thinking Putty. Her therapist suggested it as a tool for Krista to use to that help ease school stress and use during study time. It’s kind of like slime and it’s relaxing.

Episode 249 - Keeping it Real with the Super Mamas: Learning to Ask for Help

IMG_5680.png

It feels like summer just ended, but the end-of-summer / back-to-school routine change has been tough so we are READY for this holiday weekend.

And speaking of a long weekend, there’s no better way to celebrate than with a brand new episode. Bricia is back from maternity leave and it’s been a while since the two of us kept it real. This week we talk about baby Augustina and how much Eduardo loves his “chuchis”, and about Paulina’s girls starting school again.

We also talk about the how important it is to communicate our feelings with our spouses during all stages of our relationships. Whether you’re just starting to date, postpartum with your first child, or married for over 50 years, telling our partner about what and how we’re feeling is crucial to a healthy relationship. We can’t expect them to do everything we need; they can’t read our minds! You should never be afraid to ask for help from anyone, and this latest vent session will help remind you it’s okay to do just that.

Pick or Tip of the Week

We have so many picks this week!

A listener recently told Paulina that Joyce Meyer has a podcast. Joyce talks about how to be joyful through in life and how to change our thoughts. Paulina especially loves them because the episodes are only 15 minutes long!

Paulina also found this YouTube page called Activ Chiropractic while she was searching for back exercises last week. Paulina attributes her quick recovery to stretching, core workouts, and the active chiropractive videos, like the one below (always consult your doctor prior to working out after an injury - Paulina’s doctor cleared her for low impact activity).

Bricia is still loving the Every Mother program for her abdominal wall exercises. She happened to find it via an Instagram ad but she truly feels helps heal your abdominal wall and pelvic floor muscles after kids. She’s knows it’s going to take time to get back into shape (she’s in no rush) but working on these muscles now is easy, low impact, and will make a difference of your body in the years to come. Paulina is a big fan too!

Lastly, Bricia is loving this pajama set from Hatch that her girlfriend, Lucia, gifted her. The material of the robe is so soft, she could wear it all day!

P.S. We want to hear from you! Send us an email at hello@supermamas.com or call the Super Mamas hotline at (424) 326-3707 to leave a message. Tell us about how you’re feeling in quarantine, ask us your questions about us, life, & family, or vent about your partner and kids like we do. 😂
