Time for a new episode and this one is GRANDE! This week we sat down with Lalo Alcaraz, award-winning cartoonist, consulting producer and cultural consultant for the Nickelodeon animated series, The Casagrandes, an all-new spinoff of the Emmy Award-winning series, The Loud House. We talk about Lalo’s contributions to the show as a writer & what it means to be a cultural consultant and the importance of featuring a Mexican family and other diverse ethnicities & societal groups on mainstream television today. We also laugh about nicknames, and why almost all Latinx households own birds.

More about Lalo: Alcaraz is the creator of the first nationally syndicated, politically themed Latino daily comic strip, La Cucaracha, which is read in American newspapers nationwide, including the Los Angeles Times. He also consults on films and television shows--most recently for the Oscar Award-winning film Coco (2017). He was a producer and writer on the animated show Bordertown and is also featured on an upcoming Latino program Habla y Vota special along with George Lopez and Jorge Ramos. Alcaraz is the co-host of KPFK radio's wildly popular satirical talk show, The Pocho Hour of Power, and co-founded the seminal Chicano humor 'zine, POCHO Magazine.

He is a 1987 graduate of San Diego State University, where he received his bachelor's degree "with distinction" in Art and Environmental Design. In 1991, he earned his master's degree in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley.  In addition, Alcaraz recently taught illustration at Otis College of Art & Design.

Alcaraz was born in San Diego to Mexican immigrant parents from Sinaloa and Zacatecas. He currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, a public school teacher, and their three children.
